Frequently Asked Questions

When does this start

From 29 September 2025.

Why is this changing?

The government has required all GP practices to use a single request system. The aim is to make access fairer, reduce the 8am rush, and ensure urgent problems are seen quickly.

When can I make a request?

Any time during our opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–6:30pm (except bank holidays). You no longer need to phone at 8am to get an appointment.

What if I need urgent help late in the day?

If you submit a form after 4:30pm and feel your problem is urgent, you may be advised to contact NHS 111 or attend an urgent care centre. Routine requests can still be submitted after this time.

How do I make a request?

You can choose the way that suits you:

Online – fill in a short form on our website using your phone, tablet or computer

By phone – call reception and our team will complete the form with you

In person – visit reception and we’ll help you fill in the form on an iPad

All requests go into the same system and are prioritised by a senior clinician.

What happens after I make a request?

A senior clinician reviews your information and decides the most appropriate next step. Urgent issues are dealt with quickly, while routine ones are managed fairly.

What about samples, like urine tests?

From 29 September, you’ll need to submit a request first. A GP will advise whether you should bring in a sample or if another approach is more suitable.

What stays the same?

You can still book Nurse, Physio, and Podiatry appointments in the usual way.

Will there be teething problems?

This is a big change behind the scenes. It may take a little time for the system to bed in, but we’re committed to making it work smoothly. We appreciate your patience while we adapt.
