Terms of Reference
PPG Purpose
The PPG fosters communication between the practice and its patients. The group provides a platform for patients to suggest positive ideas and voice concerns about the practice and its healthcare provision.
Membership
The PPG should strive for a membership representing the diversity of the practice’s patient population. Membership is voluntary and open to all registered patients.
Meetings
The PPG will meet regularly, at least quarterly. Additional meetings may be scheduled as necessary. A Chairperson elected by the group will facilitate meetings.
Roles and Responsibilities
The PPG will work collaboratively with the practice to improve services. This includes providing feedback on patients’ needs, concerns, and interests and challenging the practice constructively whenever necessary.
Communication
The PPG will communicate information to the practice’s patient community and ensure patient feedback is passed on to the practice.
Review
The Terms of Reference will be reviewed annually or as necessary.
PPG Member Role Description
Role Purpose
To represent the practice’s patient population and work in partnership with the practice to improve common understanding, help patients take more responsibility for their health, improve services, and provide practical support for the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend regular PPG meetings.
- Provide a patient’s perspective on services provided by the practice.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of services.
- Promote good health and higher levels of health literacy by encouraging and supporting activities within the practice.
- Support the practice in conducting patient surveys and implementing changes based on the results.
Skills and Experience
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to represent the patient community.
- A commitment to improving GP services.
- Respect for others’ views and privacy.
Time Commitment
The role is voluntary. The expected time commitment is attendance at regular PPG meetings and any additional time for specific projects as agreed by the PPG.
